Mon. 29 this is Africa! We went to Botswana, then took a boat to Namibia and hiked to a village. Each village is a single family. The oldest male is the chief and he is the only one who can own goats. The rest own cows and chickens and live off of their produce and fishing. The biggest danger are the Hippos, 9 men were killed from the region last year. They drink the water from the Chobe River and if you saw what went into the river you would not and we did not. In the afternoon, our group took a river cruise for 2 1/2 hours. Wow, this is what you see in all of the documentaries. Many elephants, crocs, water buffalo, antelope, hippos, a great variety of birds. We had the most wonderful experience. We were stopped at the bank when a herd of 35 elephants came charging towards to water and stopped at the edge where we were able to take photos. Our tour guides have been good. Steph , this is for you . There is a an African reed cormorant, similar to China. There are also fish eagles that look like our bald eagles.
